Cyprus, a Mediterranean gem and proud member of the European Union since 2004, is officially in the final stages of joining the Schengen Area. With full accession expected in 2026, this move signals a transformative shift for students, travelers, and international investors โ especially from countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan, who seek easy European access through Cyprus.
The Schengen Area is a passport-free zone covering 29 European countries, enabling seamless travel, trade, and cooperation. Once Cyprus joins, it will become the 30th member, offering unrestricted movement across Europe for eligible visitors and residents.
According to President Nikos Christodoulides, Cyprus will finalize all technical requirements by late 2025. EU officials have confirmed that Cyprus is now โcloser than everโ to full Schengen integration.
While Cyprus has made major strides, the internal division between the Republic-controlled south and Turkish-occupied north remains a sensitive matter. EU officials continue to assess how border controls will be managed across the buffer zone to ensure full Schengen compliance.
At Bahire Poralekha (BAPO), we believe Cyprusโs Schengen accession will open new doors for students, jobseekers, and families. As a regionally stable, English-speaking, and budget-friendly destination, Cyprus will soon offer:
